I Made It

beauty school, two broken bones, and graduation

Regina Monae in the studio

At the start of beauty school I took a fall and broke two bones in my knee. Barely standing, every step hurting, asking why me and why now.

But I wiped my tears and I didn't back down. I showed up for six months straight, in pain, without fail — and I made it to graduation. "I Made It" is for everyone hurting on the inside who shows up anyway.

From the lyric sheet
Two bones broke, I was barely standing Every step hurt, didn't go as planned Looking all around like "why me now?" But I wiped my tears, I ain't backing down They don't see what I carry inside Every silent tear that I hide I was hurting, but I showed up anyway Yeah, I showed up anyway.
✝ Isaiah 40:29-31 — "He gives power to the faint… they shall mount up with wings like eagles."
✎ A note to journal on

What are you showing up for in pain right now? Picture the version of you on the other side of it.

Some stories are too deep for ordinary words. I help turn personal stories, testimonies, love stories, grief journeys, family memories, and life experiences into custom songs.
